New parks to explore

The proposed parks of the Mount Augustus to Mulga region are ringed by the towns of Gascoyne Junction, Mullewa, Mount Magnet, Meekatharra and Wiluna, and would create focal points for visitors in one of WA's largest "tourism blind spots".

The parks offer a plethora of rich experiences - including Aboriginal cave paintings, engravings and ceremonial sites, rock cairns from John Forrest's exploits as an explorer, icons along the Kingsford-Smith mail run and relics of the area's gold-mining and pastoral past.

All this sits against a backdrop of rugged breakaways and ranges, carpets of season wildflowers and spring-fed streams and river pools.

The area is rich with opportunities for four-wheel drive trails connecting with the North-West Wildflower Trail and the Wool Wagon Pathway.
